In this illustration and poster design, I wanted to capture the beauty, joy and intricacy of Beethoven's 9th symphony. There is a story that I read while doing the research for this piece that Beethoven was profoundly deaf by the time his 9th symphony was first performed. At the end of the premier performance,while Beethoven was facing away from the audience showing his appreciation to the musicians on stage and he could not hear the audience's applause. The musicians turned him around to see their reaction. It was only then that the conductor and musicians realized that he was not able to hear at all.
