Gregg Valley has been creating visually compelling images ever
since his graduation in 1986 with a BFA in illustration from
Carnegie Mellon University. After working in the publishing
industry for many years using a colored pencil style, he has
adopted a digital technique that he calls “faceting.” This is achieved
by blocking out large shapes within an image, then cutting them up
into many smaller shapes, which are then individually colored. This
unique style lends itself well to a wide variety of national clients including,
Pepsi, McDonalds, Nutrisweet, Ocean Spray, Tyson Chicken,
U.S. Postal Service, National Geographic, and the National Wildlife
Federation. He has just completed projects with National Public
Radio, the city of Pittsburgh’s annual Great Race poster for the
second year in a row, and PetSmart, where his work had been
displayed in locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has also
been commissioned by Carnegie Mellon University to do a series of
portraits of high profile donors throughout the past century, and
recently has been adapting his style to large scale public art projects.
He painted an 1,875 square foot mural last year and this year has
been selected to create a sixty foot tall mural in the City of Pittsburgh.
Gregg currently resides in McMurray, PA with his wife Cathie,
sons Zak and Jake, cat Athena, iguana Iggy, parakeets Paul and
Ringo, many fish and other assorted creatures.
